Detailed Itinerary

A three-hour guided tour of an organic spice farm can teach you more about this profitable industry, which is one of Zanzibar’s most well-known exports. Discover the methods utilized on the islands to grow a variety of spices, including black pepper, cloves, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Find out why Tanzania’s Mafia Island and the Zanzibar Archipelago earned the nickname “Spice Islands.”

When you arrive at the spice farm, your guide will tell you about the background and current applications of these fragrant plants. Discover an extensive assortment of spices, such as cardamom, nutmeg, vanilla, and numerous others. As you harvest the herbs and spices from the plants, you’ll be able to see, feel, and smell them. Alongside these fragrant plants, fresh tropical fruits will also be available for viewing and tasting. Take part in the harvesting of cassava leaves, prepare some coconut milk and then practice your cooking. Then some young coconuts will be brought to you by a climber on a coconut tree.

Zanzibar is also called the “Spice Island”, in addition to the beautiful beaches and parks, it offers an unforgettable tour of various types of aromatic spices. Few people could identify these Zanzibar spices in their natural habitat, despite the fact that they are widely used and everyone is familiar with their flavour. If you want to find out more about where Zanzibar’s traditional food and spices come from, this tour is a must-do experience. It’s a unique highlight of the island on a safari.

Our half-day excursion begins at 9:30 a.m. with a group drive to one of our carefully chosen spice farms, which is 15 kilometres northeast of Stone town in Kizimbani. A guided tour of the spice farm will be provided, highlighting the various fruits and spices’ delicious aromas. Additionally, you will gather the essential ingredients required for our customary local cooking class. After the Spice tour, you will be taken by a local woman to prepare and cook traditional foods, and you will all sit down to a homemade meal. At ca. 2 o’clock we make our way back to Stone town or the Hotel. A sensory excursion into the fragrant world of spices can be had on a spice farm tour in Zanzibar. Discover the origins and applications of cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, and other spices as you tour verdant plantations and savour a traditional Zanzibar meal. It’s a fun and instructive experience that gives you a taste of the island’s rich culture and heritage with spices after testing it. Don’t pass up the opportunity to purchase some of these genuine Zanzibar goods and spices as mementos. We’ll do one last thing together after your tour of this incredible location: gather cassava leaves for future cooking classes! From our numerous stalls, you should also purchase some fresh chopped herbs or roots.
