The dry season (July to October) is the greatest time to visit Hwange, as enormous herds of animals – notably the magnificent elephant herds – congregate in the region to drink from the waterholes in order to live in this hot and punishing environment.
However, while the rains from December to March disperse the species over the park, making it more difficult to identify them, the summer showers also bring forth spectacular foliage. This provides enthralling bird-watching possibilities as the local population is augmented by migrants from the Northern Hemisphere. Hwange National Park is certainly a marvel all year.
