Entry Gates to Samburu National Reserve in Kenya: To get entrance to the reserve, there are many entry gates. Using the proper gate on your way to Samburu might save you hours of travel time. The main gates of Samburu Reserve are shown here, along with basic information on which lodges and camps are nearest to the different entrance points.

The admission and leave times are 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., respectively, after which the gates are closed. It may be allowed to access or depart outside of these times with the approval of the reserve Warden in extraordinary circumstances, such as a car breakdown or poor weather forcing road closures.

Samburu Game Reserve is located 350 kilometers north of Nairobi on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River. The Ewaso Nyiro River separates the park from Shaba Game Reserve and Buffalo Springs National Reserve. This one-of-a-kind natural treasure spans 165 square kilometers, or 583 square miles.

West Gate

West Gate Community Conservancy is located on the western edge of Samburu National Reserve. This amazing reserve is covered in thorny acacia scrub and is home to thousands of Samburu people as well as a robust and rising population of big wildlife, including up to 500 Grevy’s zebras. The Conservancy may only be accessed if you stay at Sasaab Lodge; the conservancy’s costs are included in the lodge’s nightly prices.

Central Airstrip Gate

All guests arriving in Samburu by air are only permitted to use the Central Airstrip entrance. The airfield is operated by Air Kenya and Safari Link, who provide daily flights to and from Samburu.

Archer’s Gate

Archer’s Gate is one of Samburu Game Reserve’s most built gates. This gate is located near Archer’s Post, not far from the Marsabit highway. It is the major gate and the most preferred since it is on the main route from both Nairobi and Isiolo Town. Samburu Intrepids Luxury Tented Camp, Elephant Watch Camp, Samburu Riverside Tented Camp, Samburu Sopa Lodge, Samburu Sentrim Lodge, and Lion King Safari Bush Camp are among the best places to stay near Archer’s Gate.

Kalama Gate

The Kalama gate is located in the Kalama Conservancy, 7 kilometers from the northern border of the Samburu National Reserve. Saruni Samburu Lodge is the only place to stay in Kalama Conservancy.

Uaso Bridge Gate

Uaso Bridge gate is mostly utilized while crossing the Ewaso Nyiro Bridge from Buffalo Springs National Reserve, which is located on the southern banks of the Ewaso Nyiro river in Isiolo County, opposite Samburu National Reserve. Ashnil Samburu Lodge and Samburu Simba Lodge are two of the greatest places to stay near the Uaso Bridge gate.

However, the diversity and quantity of wildlife is among the highest in the country, maybe second only to the Masai Mara. It is most renowned for its large elephant population and the uncommon dry land wildlife of northern Kenya, including the ‘Samburu Five’ of Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, and Grevy’s zebra.
